Tibet, Kings and ministers

15th century, Tibet, King Songtsen Gampo, (painted clay on a wooden armature?), photo by Dudul Dorjay, 2011, on virginia.edu, inside the Gyantse Kumbum stupa (Tibet).

Songtsen Gampo (7th century), with the head of Amitabha on top of his headdress, is flanked by two characters dressed in kingly attire, identified as Trisong Detsen (8th century) and Ralpachen (9th century) on Alain Collet. The three of them are known as the Dharma Kings.

Songtsen Gampo’s ministers are usually depicted with a kingly appearance and his distinctive headdress (without the buddha’s head).
