Tibet, Janguli

15th century, Tibet, Janguli, gilt metal with stone inlay, private collection, photo on HAR.

A very rare sculpture of Janguli in her three-head and six-arm form, identified by the sword in one of her hands along with the combination of her other attributes: a bow, an arrow, a flower, a vajra sceptre, a lasso. She normally wears a skirt made of peacock feathers and always holds a snake, or wears snake jewellery, or has a snake on her head – in this case she has a five-naga hood. The only other statue of Janguli we have seen so far is also published on HAR.
