Mongolia, seated buddhas (6)

Circa 1700, Mongolia, Bhaisajyaguru, (parcel-)gilt brass, 25 cm, inventory nº 1935.50.0507 at the Östasiatiska Museet in Stockholm (Sweden).

Draped in the Chinese fashion, Bhaisajyaguru is identified by the branch of chebulic myrobalan in his right hand (arura in Tibetan, haritaki in Sanskrit, terminalia chebula in Latin) and the medicine jar in the other. He is surrounded by the other seven medicine buddhas. The throne is decorated with two lions and a flaming triple gem (triratna).
