Always seated with a leg pendent, Green Tara occasionally makes the fear-allaying gesture with her right hand. She normally holds a blue water lily in the other while making a symbolic gesture, in this case the kartari mudra (tip of the ring finger against tip of the thumb) to bestow refuge.

In most cases her right hand makes the gesture of supreme generosity. It is unusual for the left hand to display the gesture of debate (tip of the forefinger on tip of the thumb).
