13th century, Nepal, Shakyamuni, gilt copper alloy, at the San Diego Museum of Art.

The historical buddha sits on a double-lotus base with oval petals, his right hand calling Earth to witness, the other cupped to hold a begging bowl. The unusual back rest is topped with an arch shaped like a tree of life.
