Gorampa Sonam Sengge (1429-1489), Tibetan philosopher of the Sakya school and abbot of the Ngor monastery, sits in the lotus position, his hands in the teaching and understanding mudras. His clothes are draped in the Chinese style and incised with a small lotus pattern. His  eyes are inlaid with silver and his lips with copper.

This masterpiece depicts him in patched garments inlaid with copper and richly incised with scrolls, clouds and lotus flowers.
