Tibet, Mahakala Shadbhuja (2)

15th century, Tibet, Mahakala Shadbhuja, copper alloy, private collection.

15th century, Tibet, Mahakala, copper alloy with stones (now missing), private collection.

The lotus base is  clearly more recent than the statue, which was probably standing on a corpse.

Mahakala is depicted here with three heads, six arms and six legs, adorned with skull crowns, a garland of freshly severed heads and snakes, a tiger skin wrapped around his hips, his right hands in a symbolical gesture or mudra, one of them holding a (broken) arrow, the left hands holding ritual implements such a thunderbolt or vajra and a bow.
