14th century, Central Tibet, buddha Amitayus, gilt copper alloy with stone inlay, private collection.
This is a Nepalese-style sculpture of Amitayus from Central Tibet. The buddha would have been holding a long-life vase, now missing. He wears the typical early-Malla style ornaments and a U-shape sacred thread over his chest. His calf-length dhoti is incised with a floral pattern. Lotus flowers seem to be sprouting from his elbows.
