Nepal, a rare clay buddha

The buddha is holding up the hem of his garment in his left hand while making a symbolic gesture with the other. Although one can appreciate the sobriety of Indian Gupta sculptures and the Indian facial features, the bright red paint is typical of Nepalese wooden or clay statues.
